AutoMend vs. Datadog: detection vs. remediation
Datadog is a great observability platform. AutoMend is what runs after Datadog tells you something is wrong. Here is how the two fit together.
We get this question a lot: how is AutoMend different from Datadog, or from Uptime Robot, or from any of the monitoring tools you are probably already running. The honest answer is that they are not in the same category — and that is the point.
Datadog (and PagerDuty, and Uptime Robot, and the rest) sit on the detection side of the incident lifecycle. They are very good at noticing that something is wrong. They are great at telling you about it, at routing the alert, at giving you the dashboards you need to investigate. What they do not do — by design — is take action. When Datadog pings you at 3 AM, a human still has to wake up, log in, run the playbook, and verify that the fix worked.
AutoMend sits one step later in the lifecycle: on the remediation side. We do not replace your monitoring tool — we plug into it. The detection signal that would have woken you up is the same signal that triggers our agent to run a recorded playbook. Detection and observability are inputs to the agent. The auto-remediation step is what we add.
In practice that means three things you do not get from a monitoring tool alone: incidents get fixed in under two minutes instead of however long it takes a human to wake up, log in, and remember the runbook; every fix is logged with the same audit trail you would expect from a change-management system; and your team gets to sleep through the same kinds of nights that used to ruin their week.
We do not think monitoring is the problem. We think the gap between monitoring and action is the problem — and that gap is what AutoMend closes.
